Timeline

Anyone who knows me knows how passionate I am about my hair. It's my baby.
That wasn't always the case, but sometime in 2013 after a series of unfortunate events I decided it was time for change. Enter natural hair talk.

I hadn't been natural since I was 5 years old! So I had no idea what my natural hair was like or how to take care of it, but what the heck? I wanted change and this was going to be an exciting adventure (or so I thought). I had my last relaxer that September and told my friends my plan. No one believed me. Can you imagine? They probably thought it was just a phase and that I would change my mind. All the while my hair was in protective styles (I didn't know as much about transitioning them as I do now). My family was a little better and some of them were very supportive; mum did warn me about her kinky hair though.

On 2nd January 2014, I had had enough. "It's now or never," I told myself as I plucked up the courage to ask my cousin (read sister) Chipundu to do my BC. She did it and I loved it! So I rocked my TWA with confidence and learnt all i could about how to deal with my 4C hair.

It hasn't been all sunshine and roses though. Shrinkage gets on my nerves (75% shrinkage). I hardly ever use heat in my hair so finding ways to stretch it out is a mission. There have been days when I couldn't for the life of me figure out what to do with it. Days when I ask myself why I did it. And days when I feel like my hair just isn't growing. That's where reading what natural hair bloggers like Aisha have to say or getting inspiration from vloggers like Jessica on YouTube come in. (I've got a million bookmarks and I'm subscribed to a lot of channels.) And of course, looking back on my progress over time (shown below).

I can gladly and confidently say that my hair is healthier (and fuller) than it's ever been #Winning. "The only regret I have with going natural is that I didn't do it sooner"

Note to all embarking on a healthy hair journey; Relaxed or Natural : Be kind to your hair, it'll thank you later. And don't forget to document your journey!
